In April 2006, the late Maestro Rostropovich was named Special Representative of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The Foundation supports HIV/AIDS programs in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, to prevent the vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child.
